There isn’t ONE solution to a good work-life balance that we should all stick to but it’s important that you find a way that works for you to keep going.
You don’t need to draw a strict line between your work and your personal life to achieve a good balance, this is not about building an impenetrable wall between both, but finding ways to connect and integrate the two.
Here are few tips that will help achieve a better work-life balance:
Leave work at work
No matter how dedicated you are to your job, when you finish, this is DONE. See it as an opportunity for you to take a moment to pause and look ahead to the time you have to yourself for the rest of the evening. Everything has its time, keep your energy for what matters after work done – You.
Key number one to have a better work-life balance is to be proactive and think ahead. Trying to multitask will mentally gain you and might result in you being less productive. Prioritise what is more important on specific days and thins where you can be more flexible on the other days. Think ahead and anticipate what’s need to be done first so you can focus on what matters and not spending energy and time on things that can be done later on. In that way, you will be able to manage your workload and not being as busy as you used to be. Doesn’t;t mean you work less, you will actually work smarter.
Create a daily routine
Having a daily routine will keep you on track to achieve the balance you want. Setting strong habits will make you actually healthier and happier. Whether it’s sleeping eight hours, not checking emails for the first couple hours of the day, working out and meditating 15min first thing in the morning, these strong habits and established daily routine will reflect in your mental clarity, emotional capacity and relationships.
Make time for yourself
Following the previous tip, give yourself the opportunity to spend some on your own and focus on your needs. Because yes, you should prioritise the activities or hobbies that make you happy. Taking a walk in the park, going to the gym, taking a hot bath, enjoying a dinner with your friends… it can be anything as long as it makes you feel physically and mentally better.
Don’t be too hard on yourself
It is good to get yourself out of your comfort zone and improve where it needs to to have a better work-life balance, but changes won’t come overnight. Things take time, and this is a part of the process. You don’t have to be perfect all the time and get everything right quickly.
Work to live, don’t live to work.
